Data Logging

The Outback Navigation Information System (ONIS) logs various system data and two navigation data files whilst the OziExplorer navigation app is running.

Many companies have comprehensive driving policies and when complimented with the ONIS, these logs can be viewed randomly for driving compliance, or as required to extract data for vehicle incident reports.

ONIS logged navigation data includes:

  • 1 second OziExplorer Daily Tracklogs (.plt files) can be loaded into the PC version of OziExplorer, or imported into GoogleEarthPro (© Google), to replay the track plot providing vehicle speed and location

  • 5 second (approx. 3 - 5 second sampling) User Logs (.csv files) containing ONIS identification, time stamping, TPMS information, instantaneous and average speed, acceleration, location, distance travelled and Fatigue Timer information which can be viewed in EXCEL.

Other ONIS viewable and downloadable logged information include the following:

  • Daily maximum speeds (peak and 90 second rolling average) (also .csv file)

  • Daily distance travelled (also .csv file)

  • TPMS tests (also PC .csv & .png files)

  • TPMS alarms (also .csv & .png files)

  • System Log

  • Maximum ONIS battery temperature (if applicable)

  • Vehicle ID change.

Logs can also be viewed on each individual ONIS (see images below below) or viewed on a PC using EXCEL or Image Viewer (only for those logs that have .csv or .png files).

NOTE:

  • The 1 second and 5 second logs are retained for 90 days (this is the default setting and can be changed prior the the ONIS build, if requested by the customer )

  • Only the 30 most recent TPMS ALARM and TEST png images are retained in the ONIS

  • All remaining logs are retained indefinitely

  • Log files are saved in three areas: secured area , user area and the external SD card

  • Log files can be accessed by connecting the ONIS to a PC using a "Micro / USB type A cable".

The internal and external SD card data logs are available to the user and the owner.

The secured area data logs are only available to the ONIS administrator and require the return of the ONIS unit to the administrator. This feature provides the owner with an additional level of data accuracy and verification independence.

The ONIS Data Logging is not designed to replace existing vehicle tracking system log data, but rather enhance the owner ability to obtain higher resolution data for incident investigation or driver behavior improvement process's.

For example:

  • If a satellite vehicle tracking system currently provides 30 second information then a vehicle travelling at 110 km/h (approx 30 m/sec) can have travelled nearly 1 km between data samples, and this information may be insufficient for vehicle incident investigation

  • As the ONIS logs vehicle locations and speed every second, it may be possible within the margin of GPS receiver accuracy to determine driver behaviour by viewing speed changes and location prior to an incident.

As the ONIS does not support direct data upload, the ONIS (and / or the removable external SD card) must be returned to the owner or GPSIS for data log extraction.

(Note: the ONIS will not operate without the external SD card)
