OUTBACK NAVIGATION INFORMATION SYSTEM
OUTBACK NAVIGATION INFORMATION SYSTEM
The OziExplorer navigation app uses raster maps displayed in a "Moving Map" format on the screen. The "Moving Map" can be compared to an atlas but with the advantage of being loaded onto a digital GPS device allowing the current position to be displayed with additional information loaded such as Waypoints, Tracklogs and Geohash information.
The user can fast switch to the iGO navigation with a single button selection (bottom menu right hand corner).
All OziExplorer User Saved Waypoints will be converted to iGO custom POI (point of interest) when the app is switched from OziExplorer to iGO.
All iGO User Saved POI Favorites be converted to OziExplorer Waypoints when the app is switched from iGO to OziExplorer.
Whilst moving, the OziExplorer app leaves a Track tail (approx 15km) behind the current location. This Track tail is useful for travelling back along the same path and can be easily cleared at any time by the user.
NOTE:
The ONIS implementation of OziExplorer does not incorporate any "turn by turn" routing.
ie. The user can not enter a location (or address) and then route to this location and can use the iGO to perform this function.
The OziExplorer app does have the ability to allow users to import pre-configured Waypoints and Tracklogs which overlay the map and provide for visual guidance.
Two digital map sets have been produced by GPS Integrated Solutions (GPSIS) and preloaded into the ONIS:
The customer can also produce and load their own maps.
Pictures or images (e.g. jpg or png - must be scaled and "north up") can be configured as maps by using the OziExplorer mapping tools (not supplied by GPSIS) and loaded into the ONIS allowing the customer to tailor maps to suit individual business requirements (see below).
The GPSIS implementation of OziExplorer uses five custom pages (see below):

The vehicle manufacture installed navigation system is ideal for city routing but typically does not cover areas in regional or outback Australia with the same detail (refer to the above picture as an example)
